Like the Danish prince who seeks to avenge his father's murder, Fox Mulder's character is imprinted by the burden he has carried for 21 years-the disappearance of his sister(November 27, 1973) and his paralysis in the face of her abduction.

Now one of the FBI's most accomplished detectives, Mulder is an Oxford-trained psychologist whose area of expertise is tracking down serial killers (he is the author of a monograph entitled "On Serial Killers and the Occult"). But his passion is paranormal phenomenon, an obsession that earned him the nickname "Spooky" from his colleagues and led to his becoming ever more consumed with the bureau's "X-Files,"--unsolved cases that are concerned not only with alien beings, but government conspiracies and cover-ups as well. Having undergone regressive hypnosis with Dr. Heitz Werber, Mulder is convinced that his sister, Samantha, was abducted by extraterrestrials, but carries a fundamental belief that she may be returned to earth unharmed.

Born October 13, 1961. His family consists of his Parents: Bill Mulder(now deceased) and Teena Mulder (maiden name Kuipers)(also deceased at this time)One sibling, his younger sister Samantha(wherabouts still unknown). His first word was J.F.K. He and his sister were left at home the night that his sister disappeared, playing board games while his parents were at a neighbor's house playing cards. There was a little squabble over what they were going to watch on TV and things after that get confusing for Fox. He has no clear memory of the incident, other than what he got from the regressive hypnosis. He was 12 at the time, and she was 8.

In 1983 he went to Oxford to study Psychology, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1986. He joined the FBI Academy at Quantico, VA from there in 1986, at the age of 22. He opened the X-Files in 1991, and Dana Scully was assigned to de-bunk him in 1992.

Mulder has a remarkable memory, and once mentions that he is "cursed with a photographic memory". One of Mulder's interests is pornography. He reads magazines like "Adult Video News" or "PlayPen" and tends to watch porn video tapes when bored or sometimes even when trying to fall asleep. Mulder is almost never seen sleeping in a bed. The bedroom in his apartment is used for storage purposes, and Mulder sleeps on a couch instead. He has seen "Plan 9 from Outer Space" 42 times. Mulder's favorite snack is raw sunflower seeds. He has a low tolerance for alcohol, and when he imbibes, he tends to behave way out of character. He hates being called Fox, and even made his parents call him Mulder. He keeps a goldfish as a pet. Mulder has an intense dislike for insects, and prefers not to be in nature if can at all help it. He's addicted to his cell phone, and Scully once commented "Mulder, if you had to go without your cell phone for five minutes you'd lapse in to catatonic schizophrenia."
His friends all have the common conspiracy theories that he does, and three of them are known as the Lone Gunmen: Melvin Frohike, Ringo Langly, and John Fitzgerald Byers. They produce the periodical with the same title.
